The History on Victorian and Edwardian Mosaic tiles.
During the era from 1839 to 1901, Victorian Mint tiles became a new form of artistic expression. Vines, flowers, leaves and other foliage were painted alongside geometric forms with graceful aplomb. You could see the influence of many artists in these encaustic tiles/ Victorian mosaic tiles, like Klimsch, Dresser and Morris. Wallpaper, glassware, rugs and furniture also carried the decorative look shown in these beautiful Edwardian tiles. The tiles were hand-painted and inspired by the Victorian art motifs and patterns of the time period.
In that glorious age, many materials were used to edge flower beds and walkways.
See the Difference We Made to this Beautiful Victorian Hallway Floor!
The original evergreen box shrub gave way to Victorian tiles as an edging in these areas. The earliest edging tiles were semi-circular roofing tiles, or rectangular or square tiles made of Terracotta or clay. After a time, roof tiles turned out to be inappropriate as edging tiles for plant beds and walkways since they were hard to keep standing upright.
7: Step Cleaning Process to the Most Cleaner and brighter Victorian Tile Flooring you ever seen in Northamptonshire!
- We inspect your Victorian tile floor before the Cleaning Process:
This is to identify any limitations like stain removal, loss of loose grout surrounding surfaces sensitive to cleaning solutions and any other areas that needs consideration before the cleaning starts.
- We protect your walls and furniture from any spills accidents:
This is to limit overspray on to sensitive areas during the cleaning process. Please note no guarantee can be made that materials that is extremely sensitive to moisture might not show some form of exposure to our cleaning solutions.
- Dry soil removal:
We will remove any dry soil and dirt before any water based cleaning takes place .Apply cleaning solution to the floor/wall: This can be by means of sprayer or directly from a container with pre-mixed cleaning solutions.
- Stone Cleaning agitation:
This is done by means of a rotary cleaning machine or by hand depending on the areas to be cleaned.
- Tile and grout cleaning rinse process:
Slurry (Dirt from the floor and cleaning solution mixed together) with our pressurised cleaning equipment. This step allows us to clean areas of your wall or floor that is not reachable with any other form of cleaning (scrubbing). Sometimes we have to repeat the cleaning process as described above to ensure optimum results.
- Hard Floor Drying Process:
After the cleaning process has been completed, we will clean up and dry any areas. In cases where stone or tile has a high porosity, drying can take up to 12- 24 hours.
- Sealer or impregnator:
A topical sealer adds a coating and a sheen finish as seen Above on After picture. This is done to protect against spills or other contaminants causing permanent stains and also make on-going maintenance easier. Impregnation: Application of a top quality impregnator also can reduce the porosity of the tile and grout. The Impregnator penetrates below the surface of the stone and grout and act as a repellent for any liquid based spills. Applying Impregnator to stone/grout will allow for a natural (matt) finish to the stone/tile and grout.
